Book Summary:
The Awakening, published in 1899 by Kate Chopin, tells the story of Edna Pontellier, a mother and wife in the late 19th century who struggles with the limitations of her role in society. She begins to question these constraints and discovers her desire for freedom and independence.
Personal Opinion:
In my opinion, it’s a beautiful book, though it’s not an easy one; it explores themes that are still relevant today, such as gender roles and individuality. It teaches us not to simply accept what people or society tell us to do, but to question it and decide our own destiny. I feel a little sad for Edna because she almost didn’t have any choices, but I see her decision at the end as an act of rebellion and control over her own life, and that’s really admirable.
